There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling hall, features 150 slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel building that features numerous comforts in addition to the casino, which offers ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and 88 tables.
