There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is banned. Eight casinos are situated in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently required to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau casino, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel building that contains a number of luxuries on top of the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight table games.
